Invitation for Poster Showcase Proposals

The 2013 NACCHO Annual Conference Workgroup invites you to submit a Poster Showcase proposal for the upcoming NACCHO Annual 2013 Conference in Dallas, Texas, on July 10 – 12.  NACCHO Annual 2013 promises to be the year’s largest gathering of local public health officials in the United States. 

Conference Theme

The action-oriented theme of NACCHO Annual 2013 is “Public Health by the Numbers. Our Story. Our Time. Our Future.”  NACCHO Annual 2013 will offer exciting learning and networking opportunities geared toward the unique needs of local public health professionals. NACCHO Annual 2013 will serve as a vital and central venue for local health officials, as well as their public health partners, to examine strategies, share ideas, and plan actions designed to address these important and timely issues. 

What is the Poster Showcase?

The Poster Showcase is a poster session featuring visual presentations of recent program initiatives, research findings, and other information of interest and importance to state and local public health practitioners. These visual presentations will be combined with informal discussions between the poster presenters and the conference attendees who circulate among the poster board displays.  Information and findings will be illustrated by displaying graphs, photographs, diagrams, and limited text on poster boards. No audiovisual equipment may be used in the Poster Showcase. Writing or drawing on the poster mounting surface will not be permitted.

Each presenter will be provided with one poster mounting board with a surface area that is 4 feet high by 8 feet wide.  The conference hosts will publish a “Poster Showcase Directory” for distribution to all conference attendees that provides the name of the presenting organization, the poster session title and description, co-authors, and the poster display board number.

When is the Poster Showcase?

Posters will be on display at NACCHO Annual 2013 beginning on Wednesday, July 10, at 2:30 PM through Thursday, July 11 at 2:30 PM.

The actual Poster Showcase presentations are currently scheduled for Wednesday, July 10, from 2:30-3:00 PM.  Presenters are expected to be onsite at the Poster Showcase during this time to discuss their posters with conference attendees.  Following the acceptance of your poster proposal, you will be provided with more detailed logistics, including set-up and dismantle times. 

Selection Criteria

The following criteria will be utilized in the selection of Poster Showcase proposals:

  • Session will offer practical, “take home” information and resources to attendees.
  • Topic is in the forefront of current public health practice.
  • Session will include qualitative and quantitative evidence that health outcomes are      improved.
  • Topic supports and/or complements the NACCHO Annual 2013 conference theme.
  • Session will be of interest to local health officials and their public health partners.

Proposal Submission Details

Poster Showcase proposals submitters are asked to complete the online poster proposal submission form.  All proposals must be submitted online by 11:59 PM Eastern on Friday, April 5, 2013. No e-mailed or faxed proposals will be reviewed.

NACCHO cannot guarantee that proposals submitted after the deadline will be considered. Notification of acceptance will be sent via e-mail to all applicants by the end of April.

Presenter Registration and Expenses

If the Poster Showcase is your sole reason for being present at NACCHO Annual 2013, there is no conference registration fee. Please note that your conference participation will be limited to the Poster Showcase only and will not include other conference sessions, activities, or meal functions that take place on the day of your poster presentation. You and/or your organization will also be responsible or any associated travel and hotel expenses.

All Poster Showcase presenters are also cordially invited to register for the NACCHO Annual 2013 Conference at the daily or full conference rate.  Registration information and directions will be provided with your notification of acceptance as a poster presenter.
